Hattiesburg Celebrates Parks and Recreation Week July 13-17

Hattiesburg, Mississippi – The City of Hattiesburg will celebrate Parks and Recreation Week, July 13-17, by recognizing the programs, public spaces and employees that help strengthen quality of life across the community.

This year’s national theme, “The Power Of,” highlights the many ways parks and recreation creates connection, encourages play, supports health and well-being and gives residents a place to feel welcome and engaged.

“Parks and recreation helps shape how people experience their community,” said Mayor Toby Barker. “It gives children places to grow, families places to gather and residents of every age opportunities to connect. This week is a chance to celebrate that impact and thank the employees who make it possible every day.”

Throughout the week, the Hattiesburg Parks and Recreation Department will offer a variety of free and family-friendly programs that reflect the department’s wide range of services, including recreation, arts, wellness, youth programming and community events.

Residents are encouraged to participate throughout the week and learn more about the people and programs that help make Hattiesburg a healthier, more active and more connected place to live.
