Ballet Magnificat!, the world’s first professional Christian ballet company, was founded in 1986 by Kathy Thibodeaux, 1982 IBC Silver Medalist, and her husband, Keith Thibodeaux. The acclaimed troupe is bringing their Deliver Us! tour to the Hattiesburg area on March 10, hosted by local nonprofit Leaps of Faith.
Deliver Us! is one of the company’s most popular and longest running ballets. The Ballet Magnificat! production follows the Biblical story of Moses, the deliverer of the enslaved Jewish people in Egypt. “Moses challenges Pharaoh and leads the people to freedom – a vivid prophetic picture pointing to the Easter story of what Jesus Christ did on Calvary,” according to the ballet company’s website. The show is set to the music from the movie The Prince of Egypt.
The performance will be held at 7:00 p.m. on March 10 at the Thomas Fine Arts Center on the Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University. Tickets for the performance are $15 and available at Eventbrite.com. Seating is general admission, with ticket proceeds benefiting Leaps of Faith.
Leaps of Faith started in 2015 with ten children and now serves more than 60 children, ages three through 16. The nonprofit’s mission is to help anyone who wants to experience ballet achieve that dream. Leaps of Faith founder and director Laura Catherine Dawson states, “Our mission is to teach classical ballet to families who cannot afford it, and to share the love of Christ to children, their families, and the community. We believe ballet is for everyone and is a way to share the love of Jesus and glorify Him.”
