Hardy Street Improvements Project to Begin on November 1

Hattiesburg, Mississippi – On Monday, Nov. 1, construction will begin for the Hardy Street Improvements Project geared towards enhancing pedestrian pathways and landscaping from 34th Avenue, east to Highway 49.

While work will begin Nov. 1, any lane closures that are necessary for work to be completed will take place at night or on the weekends. Everyday travel was taken into consideration through planning this project, however, some inconveniences may occur.  Pedestrians and motorists are encouraged to use caution when in and around the work zone.

Primarily a landscaping and pedestrian improvements project, this construction is slated to be complete by May 2022 depending on the weather.

Awarded to Webster Electric, the total project cost is $1 million which is funded by a Transportation Alternatives Program grant presented to The University of Southern Mississippi through the Mississippi Department of Transportation. The grant funding requires a local match which is shared between the University, the City of Hattiesburg, the Area Development Partnership, the Convention Commission, Forrest County, Forrest General Hospital and Hattiesburg Clinic.
