The Southern Miss Student Media Center (SM2) will host the SMTV News Live “Gold Carpet” Event on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Thad Cochran Ballroom I.
The event will feature a live broadcast of SMTV News, a gold carpet photo experience, and opportunities for attendees to meet the student cast and crew. Guests will have access to photo stations and refreshments.
The evening will begin with welcome remarks from Dr. Ed Simpson, Director of the School of Media and Communication, and Dr. Jason Beverly, Director of the Student Media Center, which will include recognition of SM2 students’ recent achievements awarded at SEJC, MAB, and MSPA competitions.
At 7:00 p.m., SMTV News will air a special live edition featuring top stories, the Golden Eagle Forecast, sports coverage with anchor Caden Robin, and a special guest appearance from USM President Joe Paul. The broadcast will also highlight student work, sponsor messages, and a feature on the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center (RHCJC).
Following the livestream, there will be a reception with interactive volunteer sign-ups and a panel discussion with student leaders, anchors, and crew members.
