Hattiesburg Fire Department and Community Development Division Host Safety Festival

Hattiesburg, Mississippi – On Saturday, October 21, 2023, the City of Hattiesburg’s Fire Department and Community Development Division will join together to host an inaugural Community Outreach Safety Festival at Dewitt Sullivan Park (Old Airport Road in South Hattiesburg), from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The event, free to attend and available to the public, will bring city officials together to focus on fire safety and home hazards in honor of both National Fire Prevention Week (October 8 – 14) and Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (October 22 – 28).

“Collaborating with the Community Development Division, we hope to share key information with residents about hazards that can exist in the home,” said Chief Sherrocko Stewart. “Whether it’s lead-based paint in a home that was built before 1978 or a hazard created from the use of space heaters or unsafe cooking methods, our departments and partners will be on-site to provide more information to anyone who attends.”

The event will feature valuable information to share, touch-a-truck opportunities with first responder vehicles, food vendors, hands-on activities, demos and fun for the entire family.
