Forrest General and Hattiesburg Clinic Open Cough + Fever Clinic

From Forrest General Hospital

Hattiesburg, Mississippi – Forrest General Hospital and Hattiesburg Clinic have announced the creation of a cough and fever clinic in an effort to stop the coronavirus from spreading. On Wednesday, March 18th, the Cloverleaf Immediate Care facility located at 5909 Highway 49 South (located adjacent to Wal-Mart) will be converted to a clinic to assess patients with cough, fever, and other respiratory symptoms.

This walk-in clinic will be open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., 7 days a week, and staffed by physicians. Individuals who visit this clinic are not required to call ahead; however, individuals that have symptoms and plan to visit their primary care physician, an emergency room or an immediate care facility are still asked to call ahead.

Additional notes regarding slowing the spread, the status of events and school closures.

1. City administration and community partners will continue to work through the implications of CDC guidelines on group gatherings being canceled or limited where there are 50+ people. This threshold was reduced from 250 to 50 on Sunday, March 15 and it continues to be fluid.

2. City officials encourage all residents to to support local where possible. The next several weeks and months will be tough for the local economy, and business will need the support. The CDC guidelines will challenge all to think outside of the box, and several of local restaurants and businesses are working on curbside pick-up and delivery options. A list of those businesses will live on the coronavirus subsite. If a business has relevant information that should be included, it can be sent to mayor@hattiesburgms.com.

3. In regards to school closures: once that information is available, it will be shared. All of the local superintendents are working through the details and logistics that will play a major role in those decisions. They aren’t taking them lightly and are working on the best possible outcome for the students and the community as a whole.

4. Today’s announcement of the Cough + Fever Clinic by Forrest General Hospital and Hattiesburg Clinic is a big, creative step forward in Hattiesburg’s health care institutions meeting the needs of the community in an outpatient setting that reduces exposure – potentially prohibiting the spread of COVID-19.
