Hattiesburg, Mississippi – The City of Hattiesburg is celebrating National Parks and Recreation Week, July 14 – 19, by highlighting the programs, services and staff that help enhance quality of life for residents across the community.
Throughout the week, the Hattiesburg Parks and Recreation Department will host a variety of free and family-friendly events that showcase the diverse programs it offers, from youth and senior activities to arts, fitness and cultural programming. Events include everything from a Summer Camp Art Show and craft nights to outdoor movie screenings and community fitness classes.
“It’s important to take this week to recognize the work our Parks and Recreation team does every day that touches every corner of our community,” said Mayor Toby Barker. “Whether that’s through maintaining our parks, hosting events or building programs that serve all ages, their work improves the quality of life for all of our residents.”
The week kicked off Monday morning with a proclamation and press conference at Midtown Green and will continue through Saturday with events at locations across the city. A full schedule of events is available on the city’s social media channels and at hattiesburgms.com/parksandrec.
Residents are encouraged to attend events throughout the week and take a moment to thank the dedicated team behind the scenes who help make Hattiesburg a vibrant, healthy and connected place to live.
