Rate of Pay: $14.48/hr.

Nature of Work:
The Security Desk position at the Police Department duties include operating walk-through and handheld devices to screen people and their belongings for metal objects, like weapons, directing individuals to remove items causing an alert, and handling the subsequent inspection or denial of entry. Key responsibilities also involve managing access control, maintaining communication, performing visual inspections, and logging relevant information.

Examples of Work:
• Operate screening equipment: Use both walk-through magnetometers and handheld wands to scan individuals and their bags, purses and briefcases.
• Perform visual inspections: Visually inspect bags and containers after an alert from the magnetometer.
• Respond to alarms: Direct individuals who trigger an alarm to remove metal objects and may conduct a physical search to identify the source of the alarm.
• Screen other items: Inspect other items like laptops and cellular phones, if required by the security protocols.
• Confiscate items: Confiscate any prohibited items found during the screening process and log them according to procedures.
• Assisting visitors: Directing individuals to the court or records department and/or providing information as needed.
• Maintaining a Welcoming Environment: Ensure that the entryway of the police department is organized and inviting for visitors.
• Perform other tasks as directed.

Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills. Must have and maintain a valid Mississippi Driver’s License. High school diploma or GED.
