Rate of Pay: $20.67/hr.

**For employees with no prior experience, on-the-job training will be provided, but employees must be able and willing to learn the auto mechanic craft.**

Nature of Work:
This position involves the skilled maintenance of a variety of City vehicles and equipment such as automotive cars and trucks, heavy-duty class trucks, tractors, mass transit buses, dozers, mowers, pumps, and utility maintenance and construction equipment. Must be detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Work is designated by supervisors and is generally inspected by the same in the form of tests and usage.

Essential Functions:
• Performs oil and lube maintenance on assorted vehicles and equipment.
• Performs overhaul and repair on gasoline engines and diesel engines.
• Responsible for repair, replacement, and installation of certain parts dealing with transmissions, brakes, clutches, wheels, etc.
• Does diversified electrical work on automotive equipment such as batteries, terminals, lighting, generators, and starters.
• Uses diagnostic equipment to identify issues with vehicle systems (e.g., electrical, braking, heating, and cooling).
• Stays up-to-date with industry developments, new repair technologies and best practices.
• Keeps work area clean, safe and organized.
• Reads and interprets repair manuals, schematics, and technical documents.
• Performs road tests to ensure and inspect for defects and repairs.
• Performs minor repairs on pumping systems.
• Performs related work as requested or required.

Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma or G.E.D;
• Valid Mississippi driver’s license;
• Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment and perform physically demanding tasks.

Special consideration will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:
• Two years of working experience as an automotive mechanic;
• Commercial driver’s license (CDL) of at least a Class “B” status;
• ASE certification, or other industry-specific certification.
