Position: Facility Maintenance Repairer

Rate of Pay: $14.50/hour

Nature of Work:
The Facility Maintenance Repairer plays a vital support role within the Construction Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. Working under the guidance of the Crew Foreman and Division Manager, this position focuses on completing hands-on maintenance tasks that keep city facilities, parks, and recreation spaces safe, clean, and functional.

This is a team-oriented position for individuals who take pride in doing the job right the first time, follow direction well, and care about producing quality work that meets city standards.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Complete assigned maintenance and repair tasks as part of a small crew.
• Assist with minor construction work, including framing, trim, and repairs to walls, doors, and fixtures; the build out of packaged furniture, equipment, décor, etc.
• Use a variety of hand tools and carpentry equipment safely and efficiently.
• Paint surfaces such as doors, rails, walls, trailers, décor, stages, signage and other items as directed.
• Perform basic facility upkeep tasks including cleaning, hardware replacement, filter replacement, general inspection, plumbing, and touch-up repairs.
• Load and unload materials, set up work sites, and keep job areas clean and organized.
• Follow safety guidelines and wear proper protective gear when operating tools or equipment.
• Support special event setup and breakdown when needed.
• Communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors about progress, issues, or needs.
• Take direction from the Crew Foreman and contribute to a supportive, productive work environment.
• Perform other tasks as required.

Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience in general maintenance, construction, or a related trade.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools and carpentry equipment.
• Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work hard without cutting corners.
• Ability to follow directions, ask questions when needed, and work steadily as part of a team.
• Must have and maintain a valid Mississippi driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, including summer and winter.
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs. on a daily basis.
Ability to stand for long periods, bend, kneel, or climb as needed.
Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, or operating lifts at elevated heights.
Ability to enter and maneuver within tight spaces such as attics or rooftops.
