Position: Crew Worker – Grounds

Rate of Pay: $14.00/hour

Nature of Work:
This position involves skilled manual labor focused on landscape maintenance, mowing, and general upkeep of City-owned properties. Work is performed primarily outdoors and requires the ability to tolerate a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather.

Duties include operating and maintaining landscaping and mowing equipment such as zero-turn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, hand tools and minor equipment. The employee will assist with general property and right of way beautification, grounds upkeep, and event support.

Occasional work may be required during public events, festivals, or holiday celebrations hosted by the City of Hattiesburg.

Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned, including after-hours and weekend work.
• Performs mowing, trimming, edging, and general landscape maintenance for City parks and properties.
• Plants and maintains flowers, shrubs, sod, and trees.
• Applies fertilizer, weed control, and insecticides as directed.
• Operates various types of equipment, including zero-turn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, pressure washers, and other landscaping tools.
• Maintains cleanliness of grounds by removing trash, debris, and recyclables.
• Mulches, prunes, and waters landscaped areas as needed.
• Performs basic preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment and completes maintenance reports.
• Provides support for setup and cleanup during City events, festivals, and celebrations.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience or training in general grounds or landscape maintenance preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Mississippi driver’s license.
• Ability to safely operate lawn and landscape maintenance equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
