Position: Seasonal Parks Facilities Crew Worker

Rate of Pay: $10.50/hr.
Nature of Work
This is a temporary seasonal labor position responsible for assisting with parks facility repair, construction, restoration, and improvement projects throughout the City of Hattiesburg park system during a designated nine-week summer period. This employee will work directly under the supervision of the Seasonal Parks Facilities Crew Supervisor and assist with assigned projects at various parks and recreation facilities.
This is a physically demanding, hands-on position requiring daily outdoor labor in summer temperatures with occasional indoor assignments as project needs require. Employees in this role will assist with rebuilding worn park features, completing maintenance repairs, transporting materials, preparing work areas, and supporting construction-related tasks to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist with daily assigned facility repair, construction, and restoration projects at designated park locations.
• Perform painting, scraping, demolition, pressure washing, hauling, cleanup, and general labor duties as directed.
• Assist with rebuilding damaged or worn park structures, fixtures, and facility features.
• Move, load, unload, and organize lumber, tools, paint, hardware, and construction materials between project sites.
• Assist with installation, assembly, and repair of park equipment, benches, fencing, signage, and related amenities.
• Prepare work areas before projects begin and clean project sites at the end of each workday.
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other maintenance equipment as assigned.
• Follow all direction from the Seasonal Parks Facilities Crew Supervisor to maintain project timelines and work quality.
• Report damaged equipment, safety concerns, or material needs to supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills
• Ability to perform strenuous manual labor in outdoor summer conditions for extended periods.
• Basic familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and construction materials preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions carefully and complete assigned physical tasks in a timely manner.
• Willingness to assist with demolition, repairs, painting, cleanup, and rebuilding assignments as needed.
• Strong teamwork skills, dependability, and punctuality required.
• Ability to maintain a productive attitude in an outdoor crew work environment.
Qualifications
• Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age and enrolled in high school/college or possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Previous labor, maintenance, construction, or repair experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift, carry, bend, climb, kneel, and perform physical labor throughout the workday.
• Must be able to work cooperatively as part of a supervised crew environment.
