Hattiesburg, Mississippi – Mayor Toby Barker, University of Southern Mississippi officials and community members gathered Monday morning to celebrate the dedication of Dr. Eddie Holloway Drive, honoring a lifetime of leadership and service by Dr. Eddie Holloway.
The ceremony was held at The University of Southern Mississippi, where the newly named roadway spans from North 40th Avenue to Golden Eagle Avenue, connecting the campus with the broader Hattiesburg community Holloway has served for decades.
Holloway spent 40 years at Southern Miss as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, mentoring generations of students and shaping campus life. His leadership also extended into the community, including 16 years on the Hattiesburg City Council and service as president of the Hattiesburg Public School Foundation. He currently serves on the Hattiesburg Public School District Board of Trustees.
“The dedication of Dr. Eddie Holloway Drive stands as a testament to Dr. Holloway’s direct and lasting impact on individuals and the broader Hattiesburg community,” said Barker. “His life’s work in university and civic leadership has opened doors for thousands of students, and I know his story will continue to inspire others for generations to come.”
The Hattiesburg City Council unanimously approved the renaming in September 2025.
