Position: Landscape Specialist & Grounds Supervisor

Rate of Pay: $18.00/hr.
Nature of Work:
The Landscape Supervisor is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing the maintenance, care, and enhancement of city parks, green spaces, and landscaped areas. This role combines direct fieldwork with team leadership, ensuring that all outdoor spaces are safe, clean, attractive, and welcoming to the community. The Supervisor will also play a key role in supporting community events, assisting with setup, logistics, and staffing during parades, block parties, and citywide celebrations. Reports directly to General Manager of Grounds Maintenance and Director of Parks and Recreation.
Examples of Work:
• Lead, train, and supervise landscape crews in daily operations including mowing, trimming, planting, mulching, irrigation, and overall grounds upkeep.
• Work side-by-side with crews to model best practices and ensure projects are completed to a high standard.
• Maintain strong attention to detail in the appearance and safety of all landscaped areas, with an emphasis on quality and efficiency.
• Develop and implement schedules for routine maintenance, seasonal planting, and special projects.
• Monitor equipment use, perform minor maintenance, and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, providing training and enforcing safe work practices.
• Collaborate with Parks and Recreation leadership to prepare parks and facilities for community events.
• Support event operations by coordinating staff, setting up/taking down equipment, and assisting with logistics during festivals, parades, and special programs.
• Communicate effectively with staff, contractors, and the public, representing the department in a professional and positive manner.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in landscaping, turf management, or horticulture is preferred. Minimum 3 years of experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or a related field. Strong knowledge of landscaping practices, equipment, and plant care. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks.
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Flexible schedule, with the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for events. Valid driver’s license required.
Work Environment:
This position is primarily outdoors, requiring regular physical activity including lifting, bending, and operating equipment. The Supervisor should be comfortable leading crews in the field as well as coordinating event support when needed.
