Position: Crew Foreman

Nature of Work:
The Crew Foreman serves as a hands-on leader in the Parks and Recreation, Construction Division. This position oversees daily maintenance, repair, and improvement projects for city parks, buildings, and recreational facilities. This is one of two foreman positions that operate within a structured reporting system to support the goals of the division. Assignments will be issued primarily by the Division Manager, with occasional directives from the Director of Parks and Recreation.
The ideal candidate has experience in HVAC, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, and general facility maintenance, as well as the ability to lead a crew, inspect for quality and safety, and ensure all work aligns with city code and service standards. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, often in extreme heat, occasional cold, and other varying weather conditions.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Lead and participate in daily work assignments for maintenance, repair, and minor construction across city facilities.
• Assign tasks to crew members and follow up to verify quality, completeness, and safety compliance.
• Perform skilled work in: HVAC system maintenance and service; electrical repairs, lighting installation, and basic wiring; light carpentry and finish work, including painting of buildings and fixtures; basic plumbing and small structural repairs.
• Assist with routine maintenance of minor equipment and city utility vehicles, as needed.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to complete projects accurately.
• Maintain clean and organized job sites while ensuring all tools and equipment are used properly and safely.
• Operate and direct the use of city-owned equipment including trenchers, lifts, bucket trucks, and light machinery.
• Maintain work records, including inventory, labor reports, material use, and status updates for all assigned tasks.
• Assess and collect necessary quotes, purchase orders and invoices in compliance with city finance policies.
• Support special city events and programs through site preparation, electrical setup, and breakdown.
• Uphold high standards of professionalism, safety, and accountability for self and crew at all times.
• Respond as needed for after-hours emergencies, weekend assignments, or weather-related tasks.
• Perform other tasks as required.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in facility maintenance, construction, or skilled trades (HVAC, electrical, carpentry, etc.).
• Minimum 2 years of crew leadership or foreman-level experience preferred.
• Vocational training or certifications in relevant fields strongly preferred.
• Valid Mississippi driver’s license required.
• Must pass background check and meet all city hiring requirements.
