Hattiesburg City Council Receives FY 2024 Financial Audit

Hattiesburg, Mississippi—On Monday, June 30, 2025, the Hattiesburg City Council held a special meeting to review the Fiscal Year 2024 audit by Topp, McWhorter, Harvey, PLLC. The council approved the audit with a unanimous vote.

This audit marks the tenth completed since 2017, with three conducted within the first 17 months of Mayor Toby Barker’s administration.

Highlights from the audit include:

  • The City received an unmodified opinion (this is the best opinion an agency can receive for its audit).
  • No new findings were issued for the City.

“Delivering another on-time audit with no new findings reflects our ongoing commitment to sound financial management and compliance at every level,” said Mayor Toby Barker. “It reinforces the trust our residents place in us to manage public funds responsibly.”

Barker added, “I want to thank TMH for their work and express my appreciation to CAO Ann Jones, City Clerk Kermas Eaton, CFO Malcolm Berch, Comptroller Lisa Hanson and accountant Tyler Flores. Preparing for an audit of this scale requires precision and coordination, and their efforts continue to set the standard for municipal financial accountability.”
