The Parks and Recreation Department manages and maintains the public parks, community centers, sports fields, cemeteries and other recreational facilities throughout the City of Hattiesburg. With a mission to enhance the quality of life for Hattiesburg’s citizens by providing recreational activities, beautiful parks, user-friendly facilities and attractive community centers in safe, enjoyable environments.

This department also provides league play, camps, clinics and tournaments in several competitive sports such as baseball, basketball, soccer, softball and tennis – along with a variety of innovative programming for ages 18 – 65. 

 

OPEN REGISTRATION

We are currently registering youth and adults for the following programs:

  • Adult Pickleball
  • Urban Line Dancing
  • Spring Kickball
  • Outdoor Adventures
    • Guided Tour of Black Creek Hiking Trails
      • Sunday, April 28 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
      • All skill levels are welcome!
      • Participants must be 18 years of age or older for this adventure.
    • Kayaking 101
      • Saturday, May 11 and Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
      • This course will be held at the Ben McNair pool and lead by a certified level II paddle instructor.
      • Participants must be 18 years of age or older for these courses.
    • Camping 101
      • Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Kamper Park
      • Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Town Square Park.
      • This course will include learning skills ranging from how to set-up a tent to what to pack for a long camping trip versus a short one. And yes, there will be s’mores involved at the end!
      • Participants must be 14 years of age or older for these courses.
    • Guided Hiking Tour of Red Bluff
      • Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
      • All skill levels are welcome, but this course will be slightly more challenging than the Black Creek course.
      • Participants must be 18 years of age or older for this adventure.

        For the costs of each program see the registration site by clicking below. Due to limited availability, fees must be paid in full within seven business days of the trip or your spot will be given to the next in line on the waiting list.
        The fee covers gear and site fees. Food will not be provided, but participants will be provided with a list of suggested food and additional items to bring.
