Complete employment application and submit to the Human Resources Department, 3rd floor City Hall, 200 Forrest Street, Downtown Hattiesburg, directly across from the Saenger Theater. GIS Intern - Part Time
Status: Part time
Department: Federal/State Programs
Rate of Pay: $9.00/hr
Nature of Work: To provide assistance to the GIS staff in maintaining database files, creating maps, completing data requests and GPS data collection. Other duties may include assisting in printing, copying hardcopies of City maps, researching and interfacing with other city employees and citizens.
Desirable Qualifications: The successful candidate will preferably have or will be enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's or graduate program in GIS Technologies, Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, Civil engineering or a related field. Candidates without a professional degree that have good GIS and programming experience are also encouraged to apply.
Must have hands-on experience with ESRI ArcGIS 9.0 or higher (ArcEditor or higher) products, with proficiencies in the use of MS office suite.
Spatial analyst, Network Analyst and GPS data collection experience is a plus.
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of database servers (SQL, oracle etc) and programming experience.

Crew Worker - Water Transmission
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: WATER & SEWER / WATER TRANS.
BEGINNING PAY: $9.00/HOUR
NATURE OF WORK: This is manual labor of a semi-skilled nature to install and maintain water mains and services, check for water leaks, turning on water service for new accounts, installs and removes water meters, and locating water meters and service lines or related work as required. Work involves responsibility for answering emergency calls and customer complaints regarding leaks and breaks in water service. The physical demands of the position may require walking, standing, lifting or reaching. The working conditions require outside labor in all weather conditions. Assignments may frequently include the use of standard or specialized hand tools, power operated equipment or other devices. Assignments may include the occasional operation of trucks and other automotive equipment incidental to regular duties. A valid Mississippi Driver’s license is required to be maintained. The position may require after hours and on-call availability as needed. All work is performed under the direct supervision of a foreman.
EDUCATION: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR G.E.D.

Equipment Operator - Sewer
Department/Division: Water & Sewer/Sewer
Beginning Pay: $10.00/hr
Nature of Work: This is a semi-skilled position for the operation of light to medium automotive equipment. The work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of pickup trucks, medium sized dump trucks, light tractors and/or similar automotive equipment. Manual labor with sewer repair crews is required to install and maintain sewer lines or related work as required. Work involves the performance of manual task requiring limited skills or special knowledge acquired through work experience.
The physical demands of the position may require walking, standing, lifting or reaching. The working conditions require outside labor in all weather conditions. Assignments may frequently include the use of standard or specialized hand tools, power operated equipment or other devices. A valid Mississippi Commercial Driver’s license of Class B or greater is required to be maintained. The position requires after hours and on-call availability as needed. The position requires Hepatitis B vaccination.

Nature of Work: The Technical Inspector regulates compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances relative to construction, site work, renovation, and remodeling activities taking place in the City of Hattiesburg. The person in this position will be working verly closely with the public and representing the City of Hattiesburg.
Examples of Work:
Desirable Qualifications: High Scholl diploma or GED: extensive experience and/or education related to construction, building systems, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems and site work. Ability to read and analyze construction plans and documents, survey plats and maps. Must currently hold or be able to obtain required inspector certifications. Must possess effective communication and computer skills. Most possess valid MS drivers license and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
