Application Process

Thank you for your interest in employment.  Follow the steps below to apply for an open position.

Submit Application

  • Submit your application online or in HR using the City’s computer.
  • Your application will be processed and sent almost immediately to the department of the position you applied for.

Application Review

  • The department with the position you applied for will review ALL applications submitted.
  • If you are going to be selected for an interview the department will contact you usually with a week or so after the position is closed. 

Applying for More than One Position

  • You may apply for more than one position even if at different departments
  • To do so click on the “Add” button under the position on the application.
  • Your application will go to all of the departments you applied for.

Applications Remain on File for 6 months

  • If you are not selected for a position you applied for, you may continue to apply for other open positions by putting in a new application or calling HR at 601-545-4571 to request your previous application be moved to be considered for another position.
  • Applications remain on file for 6 months.

Community Development Specialist - E3 Health Initiative Community Liaison

Position:  Community Development Specialist - E3 Health Initiative Community Liaison

Department:  Mayor & Administration

Rate of Pay:  $12.98/hr

Status:  This position is a Part-Time Temporary Position for a specific duration of time.   End date of position is scheduled for December 2015 but may be adjusted to either earlier/later depending on funding.  Incumbent will be required to work 20 hours a week including some evenings and weekends.

 

Summary of Position:

 

To provide and ensure the continued connection between community members and administrative staff and agencies involved in the E3 (Educate, Enroll, and Empower) Health Initiative, an 18 month grant funded project. The job of the community liaison is to assist in improving communication and community participation in health access by providing information on services available to eligible students and families; offering enrollment opportunities for Medicaid/CHIP at various events and locations; and empowering families through enrollment and retention opportunities.

Project Background

The E3 Health Initiative is an 18 month grant aimed at increasing enrollment and retention of Medicaid and the state Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Job summary

The two community liaisons will collaborate with the project coordinator and city officials to oversee and perform the outreach and enrollment activities of the E3 Health Initiative.  These persons will be housed at a location central to the target area, but will spend time in the Hattiesburg Public Schools (including P.A.C.E. Head Start classrooms), P.A.C.E. Head Start main offices, daycare centers, Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative (SeMRHI) clinics, faith-based organizations, and in neighborhoods on specified enrollment days.

Summary of essential job functions:

All job functions will be carried under the supervision of the project coordinator.

 

  • Provide education to adults in the target area on health access opportunities related to Medicaid and CHIP qualification requirements and the enrollment and recertification process
  1. Attendance at a minimum of one community event in the target area per month to speak directly to families and distribute informational material for accessing and retaining health insurance in addition to providing health and wellness information
  2. Provision of information on use of the Medicaid website for enrollment in neighborhoods on a weekly basis
  3. Provision of one seminar a month at a faith-based organization on Medicaid and CHIP enrollment and qualification requirements
  4. Creation of mobile “hot spots” several times per month
  • Facilitate self-assistance for enrollment or recertification at scheduled school events, at scheduled enrollment days in neighborhoods, at PACE Head Start, SeMRHI, faith-based organizations
  • Location identification for permanent enrollment kiosks
  • Community member one-on-one training on Medicaid/CHIP enrollment procedures
  • Advertisement of times and dates for neighborhood access to enrollment “hot spots” – visits to schools
  • Educational materials distributed by mail, face-to-face, and on enrollment days
  • Organizing and providing the “Steering a Healthier Course” kickoff and midpoint rallies
  1. Assist the Project Coordinator in survey distribution and collection at events for evaluation purposes.

 

Minimum requirements:

Experience with communities, health access, and/or underserved populations

 

Communication and presentation skills, ability to work on a team, self-motivated,

 

Basic computer skills: Microsoft Office, email

 

Fluency in Spanish *preferred, but not required

 

Valid driver’s license

 

Due to the attendance at many community events and agencies around Hattiesburg, some amount of standing and minimal lifting will be required

Equipment Operator

Position: Equipment Operator 

Department:                Sanitation

 

Division:                      Public Works

Rate of Pay:                $10.00/hr



Nature of Work:

  • Skilled work in the operation of light and heavy-duty construction maintenance equipment.
  • Operator is responsible for daily preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Assignments are usually received in the form of orders to accomplish a specific task.
  • Supervision may be exercised over a small group of laborers.

Examples of Work:

  • Operation of equipment such as dump trucks, back-hoes, dozers, etc. for repairs and construction.
  • Operates a front-end loader in loading asphalt, gravel, sand, rock slag slurry and similar materials onto trucks.
  • Performs related work as required.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience is desired
  • Must have and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license.
