APPLICATION PROCESSThank your for your interest in employment with the City of Hattiesburg. There are several ways to apply for an open, posted position: 1. Apply in person at the Human Resources Department, 3rd floor City Hall, 200 Forrest Street, downtown Hattiesburg, directly across from the Saenger Theater. All available jobs are posted for review; or 2. Go to the Download section on the left-hand side of the City's Website, click on it and drop down to the Administration section, click on Employment Application, and print application. Complete employment application and sumit to the Human Resources Department, 3rd floor City Hall, 200 Forrest Street, downtown Hattiesburg, directly across from the Saenger Theater. Or, if desired, you may mail completed application to, Human Resources, P. O. Box 1898, Hattiesburg MS, 39403-1898. Crew Worker (Full Time)
Department: Public Works
Division: Streets Rate of Pay: $8.00/hr
Nature of Work: This is semi-skilled maintenance and repair work. Will maintain and repair City streets, sidewalks, drainage ditches.
Examples or Work:
Maintain and Repair City Streets
· Secure area to ensure safety of the public
· Haul asphalt, dirt and gravel to appropriate locations as needed
· Lay concrete to repair city streets and driveways
· Fill potholes existing on City streets
· Clear streets of debris and garbage
· Replace sod when damage is done during construction
Maintain drainage ditches and right of ways
· Lay pipes for drainage ditches
· Clear debris from ditches
· Mow-weed-eat and rake leaves around right of ways and other city streets
Daily maintenance of departmental vehicles
· Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment by checking tire pressures, oil and fluid levels and pressures before each run
· Complete weekly schedule maintenance on trucks
· Clean trucks at the end of each day
Performs other duties as directed.
Desirable Qualifications: High school diploma or G.E.D equivalent. Prior experience working with asphalt and concrete preferred. Position requires heavy lifting, stooping, etc. Will be working in extreme weather conditions. Must have a valid Ms drivers license. Must have good communication skills and have the ability to follow instructions. Must be dependable.

Crew Worker

Division: Water Transmission
Beginning pay: $8.00/per
Nature of work: This is manual work that includes some skilled duties. Assignments may include the use of certain equipment or devices which requires special skills and knowledge. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a foreman who gives general instructions depending on the assignments.
Examples of work:
· Lays water pipes, prepares the proper trench for bell joints
· Makes lead joints, fits sleeves, cuts and threads pipes for connections
· Breaks pavement, turns water services on and off
· Reads water meters, changes out meters, raises meter boxes, etc.
Desirable qualifications:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent with considerable experience in the field of water distribution and the use of construction tools and equipment.

School Crossing Guard (Part-Time)Department: Police Rate of Pay: $7.25/per hr Nature of Work: Incumbent in this position will ensure the safe passage of all children arriving or leaving from a school at the assigned location. Examples of Work: Putting in the street and removing from the street the "School Zone Warning" signs at each crossing time. Wearing city issued uniform. Arriving on time and staying until all children have left the school area. Report to police any suspicious person, careless driver, or unattended children. Use of portable hand-held stop sign. Performs related duties as required. Desirable Qualifications: High School diploma or G.E.D. Ability to learn and understand the school crossing guard operation manual. Ability to attend and pass training involved in this position. Will work approximately 15-20 a week during the school year. Posting Date: January 10, 2010
