Accounting

The Accounting Division, led by Destiny Jackson (division manager), Patrina Harper-Applewhite (assistant division manager) and Tessah Adams, plays an integral part for the Hattiesburg Police Department. It provides support to the City of Hattiesburg Municipal Court regarding court financial matters and documents, processes paperwork for new employees and enters employee information into the payroll system.

Additionally, these ladies verify attendance, hours worked, and pay adjustments; post information onto designated records, review time sheets, wage computation and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies. In addition to keeping track of leave time, such as vacation, personal, and sick leave, for all Hattiesburg Police Department employees, they also keep records of employees’ information, such as exemptions, transfers, and resignations, which allows them to maintain and update payroll records.

Lastly, the Accounting Division coordinates billing and scheduling for Special Duty Details that officers work outside of the police department. These ladies are appreciated dearly, especially after distributing checks on payday Fridays!

Accreditation

In March 1998, the Hattiesburg Police Department became the first law enforcement agency in the state of Mississippi to become nationally accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Accreditation, managed by Lt. LaTosha Myers-Mitchell and LaTonya Norris, is an ongoing process of advancement and achievement, as the department must undergo an extensive review process by CALEA for re-accreditation every 3 years. The department has made a commitment to the accreditation process for a number of reasons, including benefits that may be realized through:

1. Improved and more efficient personnel practices through the required implementation and documentation of practices and procedures related to discipline, performance evaluation, promotion and training.

2. Increased officer safety through the implementation of safety related standards.

3. Reduced likelihood of litigation against an officer or the Department through the implementation of procedures in high liability areas.

4. Improvement in the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Department by requiring the Department to review and assess organization and operations, and compare them to an objective outside standard that is recognized in professional law enforcement circles.

After being recognized earlier in the year, the Hattiesburg Police Department is still pleased to announce its national approval for re-accreditation.
