The representative for Ward Two, Deborah Denard Delgado, is now in her third term on the City Council. Ward Two comprises the eastern and northeastern parts of the City and borders the Leaf River and Bouie River; it is the site of the recently unveiled Urban Renewal Overlay District known as “Twin Forks Rising,” conceived of and initiated by Councilwoman Delgado.
She is director of the High-Bar Group, campaign and business support consultants. Councilwoman Delgado is also founder and chairperson of the Historic Mobile Street Renaissance Festival, an annual celebration of the cultural heritage of the historic black business and entertainment district in Hattiesburg. She serves on the Advisory Council of the National League of Cities (NLC), having previously served on NLC’s Board of Directors. She is the 2010 winner of the prestigious Leadership Award, presented annual by Women in Municipal Government – an NLC constituency group -- to recognize and honor female municipal officials for outstanding leadership in local government. Councilwoman Delgado is President-Elect of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO), and serves as Co-Chair of the NBC-LEO Policy Committee. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors of the NBC-LEO Foundation. During her tenure in office she has been a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Mississippi Municipal League (MML) as well.
Councilwoman Delgado holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science and a master of arts degree in history from Jackson State University, and a juris doctorate from Texas Southern University. She is a member of Tabernacle of Prayer Church of God In Christ and belongs to numerous social and civic organizations. She is married to John Delgado and is the mother of two sons, Britton and Zachary.
