DESCRIPTION:Hattiesburlesque was born out of a new friendship\, forged years ago\, between artist and soulful songstress\, Abigail Lenz Allen\, and dance coach and choreographer Rebecca Chandler.  Upon meeting\, they instantly learned they shared an interest in live music\, live dance performance\, musical theatre and the local downtown scene.  Hattiesburlesque is a high-energy burlesque style\, music and dance review.  While the performance is very tasteful and humorous\, it is a nod to burlesque\, and therefore\, an adult-themed show. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Winters School of Music & Ministry Studies presents “The Light in the Piazza” Oct. 18-19 at Thomas Fine Arts Auditorium. This two-act musical takes place in Florence\, Italy\, in 1953. The production is part of an annual series of fall musical and operatic productions. \nTickets:\n* General admission\, $10\n* Non-WCU students + seniors\, $5\n* More info: (601) 318-6175 \nStory of the play:\nMargaret Johnson\, an elegant and strong-willed Southern woman\, has taken her daughter\, Clara\, on a vacation to Italy. When a gust of wind blows Clara’s hat right into the hands of a young Italian gentleman\, neither age nor language nor familial disapproval can stop their whirlwind love affair. As Clara and Fabrizio fall into each others’ arms\, Margaret must grapple with the question of whether to tell Fabrizio’s family that Clara is developmentally disabled. With soaring operatic melodies that set it apart from most contemporary musical theatre\, “The Light in the Piazza” is a story about mothers and daughters\, fathers and sons\, and the deeply intertwined emotions of love and loss. \nThe roles of Margaret Johnson and her daughter\, Clara\, will be played by William Carey University music professor\, Dr. Connie Roberts\, and her daughter\, Maggie Day Roberts.
