DESCRIPTION:The University of Southern Mississippi’s Center for Human Rights and Civil Liberties is hosting a Human Rights Conference called Human Trafficking: Awareness and Action. It is a two-day event on April 5th (6:30 p.m. – 8: 30 p.m.) and 6th (9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) on USM’s Hattiesburg campus in the first floor of the Liberal Arts Building. Friday night will consist of a keynote speech by social worker and human rights activist Jeanette Westbrook and Saturday will consist of a variety of presentations from activists\, academics\, advocates and organizations. SUMMARY:Rise and Shine Half Marathon\, 10K & 5K
DESCRIPTION:The 8th Annual Hattiesburg Rise and Shine Half Marathon\, presented by Forrest General Hospital\, is officially set for Saturday\, April 6\, 2019. The 2019 race is adding a 10K route and an opportunity to raise funds for 14 Pinebelt nonprofits through a new ‘Gives Miles’ program. \nRunners will tour the city as the course highlights some of Hattiesburg’s iconic landmarks and engages local businesses. The newly certified 2019 course will start and finish at the Historic Hattiesburg Saenger Theater\, wind through Downtown Hattiesburg\, head toward the Hattiesburg Avenues\, looping around the Hattiesburg Zoo. A portion of the route tours The University of Southern Mississippi’s campus\, and runners blaze down the Longleaf Trace to the finish line. \nFourteen agencies will benefit from the Rise and Shine Half Marathon in 2019. DESCRIPTION:New Student and Retention Programs is excited to announce our inaugural Spring Family Day event. We invite students and families to attend Spring Family Day on Saturday\, April 6 as we tailgate prior to the USM vs. Marshall University baseball game. With an exciting baseball season at Southern Miss\, a tailgate and baseball game seemed to be the perfect fit for a family day in Hattiesburg! \nThis is a great opportunity for families to visit\, reconnect and spend time with their student. The tailgate will take place from 12 – 1:30 p.m. on the Reed Green Coliseum Lawn (near the ticket booth) across from Pete Taylor Park. First pitch will be at 2 p.m. \nWith a valid student ID\, current Southern Miss students may attend the tailgate and baseball game complimentarily. \nReservations are required and will include admission to the tailgate event\, meal\, one baseball game general admission ticket and a gift. Tailgate tickets are $25 per guest and for baseball season ticket holders or those who have already purchased tickets to the game\, the cost is $15 per person. Children ages 0-2 will be admitted to the tailgate and the baseball game for free. \nStudents and families will enjoy a tailgate atmosphere of food\, games and music prior to attending the Saturday afternoon baseball game. All families that register for Spring Family Day will be entered into a drawing for the chance to be the one lucky registrant to throw the first pitch at the baseball game! \nSpring Family Day tickets can be purchased at usm.edu/nsrp. Registration closes on Friday\, March 29. \n
