SUMMARY:Take Five – Celebrating the Dave Brubeck Centennial
DESCRIPTION:With generous support from the USM College of Arts and Sciences \nDave Brubeck\, an American icon for the world of jazz piano and composition\, is considered to be one of the foremost performers of “cool jazz\,” and achieved global recognition in his field. His style ranged from refined to bombastic\, reflecting both his classical training and his extraordinary improvisational skills. His compositions are known for employing unusual and complex rhythms and harmonies.  He was also a composer of orchestral\, sacred\, and television music. Everyone knows the most famous musical work ever recorded by his quartet\, Paul Desmond’s “Take Five.”  Come hear an evening of extraordinary jazz performed by one of the most spectacular jazz quartets in the country\, The Sam Bruton Quartet. Members of the quartet are Sam Bruton (piano)\, Larry Panella (saxophone)\, David Pellow (bass)\, and Pete Wehner (drums). \n
