SUMMARY:Reflections of China featuring Zhaolei Xie\, piano
DESCRIPTION:A very special performance showcasing 5\,000 years of China’s enduring music\, from the Xia (2070 BC) to Qing (1912 AD) dynasties\, the first part of the program contains piano transcriptions of some of these ancient Chinese melodies. The second section represents a period of hunger and suffering from the Japanese invasion of China in 1931\, through the Civil War\, the establishment of the People’s Republic of China\, and the Cultural Revolution that followed World War II. Finally\, the last portion celebrates the beauty of traditional Chinese songs\, two of them being the “Liuyang River” and “Jasmine Flower.” \nAfterwards\, please enjoy a special showing of the exhibition\, “The Art of Myra Meade\,” in the Downey Gallery. \n
