Position Title: Operating Engineer

Beginning Pay: $10.50/hr

This is an entry level position. The primary duties of an operator are to perform tasks associated with operating and maintaining the two main water treatment plants. This requires routine testing to be performed, as well as the documentation of results. In addition, the job requires answering the telephone/interacting with the public, dispatching on-call personnel and decision making in conjunction with operating the plant as well as maintaining an official log.
A training period is required to learn the operation of the plants. After the initial training period, the employee will be responsible for grounds maintenance of the water plants, including elevated tanks, wells and other remote sites. The employee will also be assigned routine maintenance tasks as required in addition to the maintenance of equipment such as mowers, trimmers, etc.
The employee must be available to work all shifts as required, including weekends and holidays and in all types of weather conditions.
The employee will also be expected to gain their Waterworks Operator Certification with five years of the date of employment. This requires a minimum of three years (3) experience as an operator and the passing of a written exam.
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
A valid Mississippi driver’s is required and is to be maintained at all times.
