The City of Hattiesburg is seeking qualified persons to become FireFighters.
- Be 18 Years of age or older
- Be a United States Citizen
- Be a high school graduate or GED
- Have no felony convictions or serious misdemeanor convictions.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Be a registered voter in current county/city of residence
- Reside within ten (10) miles of Hattiesburg city limits or
relocate within six (6) months of employment
You must first successfully complete the Physical Ability Test before participating in the Civil Service Exam. If you do not successfully pass the Physical Ability Test, you will not be allowed to take the Civil Service Exam.
The starting salary for a recruit during a Recruit Class is $25,000, upon Certified after graduation starting salary will be $30,000.00.
The Physical Ability Exam will be offered on the following date and time at the Hattiesburg Police & Fire Training Academy (53 Academy Drive, Hattiesburg, MS).

An application for the Civil Service exam will be available on October 23, 2017. The application must be completed at City Hall, located at 200 Forrest Street, Hattiesburg, MS, in the Human Resources Department (3rd floor) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, or online at www.hattiesburgms.com The deadline for accepting application will be January 26, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.
