Mayor’s Financial Education Initiative Needs Volunteers!

In January 2016, partners of the City of Hattiesburg Mayor’s Financial Education Initiative will operate tax sites in Forrest, Lamar, Marion, and Jones Counties.  Sites will be operated by AARP Tax-Aide, PRVO, Inc. and Christian Services, Inc. Tax preparation and electronic filing services will be offered.  This is a free service provided to seniors and taxpayers with low to moderate income.  Sites operate weekdays from January through April.  To operate these sites, volunteers are needed to serve as receptionist and tax return preparers.  Preparers should be comfortable with computers and ideally have some experience preparing personal tax returns – but not a must. Classroom training will be provided beginning in December, and also in January – self-study is also required.  All preparers must pass a test to be certified.  We are also looking for individuals who may wish to serve as translators in our effort to serve the Hispanic community.  For more information, please contact Maxine Coleman at the City of Hattiesburg, (601) 554-1005 or e-mail at mcoleman@hattiesburgms.com.  The Mayor’s Financial Education Initiative is a partner with the Internal Revenue Service-Stakeholder Partnerships, Education and Communication.
