The City of Hattiesburg Public Works Department’s goal is to improve the community’s roads and pedestrian walkways in a manner that is cost efficient for area residents. On Tuesday, August 30 at 10 a.m., the City will unveil one such improvement—
A recently-installed aluminum pedestrian bridge situated between Hillendale and Beverly Lane.
Public Works Director, Larry Barnes, believes that not only can almost any type of bridge be manufactured from aluminum, aluminum bridges are more cost efficient, more durable, and last longer.
This project totaled $70, 200; however, the City was able to save taxpayers
$49,800 as the Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments partnered
to construct and level the bridge. An Eagle Scout also helped beautify the space by planting
trees and additional foliage around the area.
