Weatherization Assistance Program
Hattiesburg-The City of Hattiesburg and South Central Community Action Agency urge low-income residents in Forrest, Lamar and Marion counties to take advantage of the Weatherization Assistance program which reduces electric bills and safety hazards.
Caseworkers from the Mississippi Department of Human Services--Division of Community Services will accept applications today at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center from 9:00 a.m., to 3:00 p.m.
The program improves the conditions of the homes of eligible low-income citizens, especially the elderly, disabled and families with small children. It reduces the amount of energy required to heat or cool a home, saves energy dollars, and addresses health and safety concerns. Energy conservation measures funded by the program range from checking all major appliances to air sealing and attic insulation.
People interested in participating in the program should bring the following items to avoid a delay in the application process:
• Picture ID (Driver’s license) for everyone in the home over the age of 18
• Social Security Card for everyone in the home
• Birth Certificate for everyone in the home
• Deed to your home
• Proof of insurance (welcomed but not required)
• Proof of income for the past thirty days (for everyone)
• Light bill and gas bill
