For Immediate Release:

Five Area Banks Award The Carpenter's Helper $29K Grant

Hattiesburg-The Carpenter’s Helper received a major grant on Thursday, Nov. 3 in its mission to help low income homeowners in Hattiesburg and surrounding areas.

The $29 thousand investment—derived from a Partnership Grant Program (PGP) comprised of five local banks—will be used to assist The Carpenter’s Helper with operational expenses. The agency will leverage the grant money with funding awarded by the City of Hattiesburg to purchase materials and complete pending projects.

PGP grants are awarded through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) member institutions to assist with the operational needs of nonprofit, community-based organizations involved in affordable housing and community development. Partnership grants are based on cash contributions of $500 to $5 thousand made by FHLB Dallas member institutions, in which FHLB Dallas matches at a 3 to 1 ratio.

Representative Percy Watson and associates of Grand Bank for Savings, The First, Magnolia State Bank, Trustmark National Bank and The Citizens Bank of Philadelphia were on hand at the $29,200 check presentation ceremony held at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center.
