Councilman Jeffery George

       Jeffery George is beginning his first term as the representative of Ward One, which includes the northwestern part of Hattiesburg, the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and the Lake Terrace Convention Center. He is a graduate of USM, where he received a bachelor’s degree in political science and minor in marketing, and this August will receive a master’s degree in economic development. He recently completed his graduate research assistantship with the Trent Lott National Center for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship.

        He served two terms as the Student Government Association President; in his second term, he served as President of the Mississippi Student Body President’s Council, representing more than 80,000 students from eight universities to the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.

        He was selected as a legislative intern in the Washington, D.C., Office of Senator Thad Cochran, where he interacted with constituents from across the state. He served as the 2016 spring commencement speaker, and was inducted into both the Southern Miss Student Hall of Fame and Graduate School Hall of Fame.

        Councilman George has worked to serve the Hattiesburg community through volunteer service with The ARC of Hattiesburg. He is an active member of the Area Development Partnership, Pine Belt Young Professionals, and the Highlands Neighborhood Association, where he currently serves as Vice President.
