FAQs About Your Trash/Garbage Collection

Who do I call if my can is damaged or if my trash/garbage gets collected?

If your can is damaged or if you feel your can is too large and would like a 65 gallon can instead of a 95 gallon can please call the Department of Public Works at 601-545-4547. The City of Hattiesburg will deliver a new can upon request.

Does my trash get picked up on a holiday?

There will be no trash/garbage collection on holidays. All holiday collections will be made on Wednesday of the same week.

What can I do with my old can?

The City of Hattiesburg will dispose of your old can when it is placed inside your new green can on your normal collection day. Please make sure that your lid is closed or no more than a 45 degree angle open.

What is the difference between the green can and the brown can?

The GREEN can is for collection of household garbage (i.e. garbage that you throw away in your kitchen)

The BROWN can is for collection of up yard trash (i.e. small branches, yard clippings).

What if I have additional yard trash?

The City of Hattiesburg has additional trash routes specifically for picking up larger piles of yard trash. Place your yard trash on the curb, close to the street. To view the yard trash garbage routes, click here.

What if I have additional household garage?

Additional garbage cans can be leased by the City of Hattiesburg for an additional $2 a month added to your garbage bill. For more information on renting a can, please call the Department of Public Works at 601-545-4547.

For holidays, when extra garbage is expected, bagged garbage may be placed beside your green cans on the day of collection.
