Nature of Work: Responsible for necessary and statutory duties as required of a Municipal Clerk.
Examples of Work:
Council Duties – assembly, duplication and distribution
Upkeep of Municipal Ordinance book - File and maintain all ordinances and prepare new ordinances for publication. Index all minute books. Arrange for publication of all public notices (newspaper). Archive/scan all minute books, ordinances into document imaging system.
Elections: Take voter registration forms, code into appropriate wards, and input into computer system. Qualify candidates for municipal office. Responsible for processing absentee ballots. Work with vote counting and affidavit ballots.
Cemetery Deeds: Issue deeds on cemetery plots. Maintain master list of plot ownership.
Taxi Permitting: Take permitting applications. Issue permits. Receive and account for fee.
General: Establish claims docket cut-off dates, agenda cut-offs, and council meeting dates. Set bid-opening dates, attend, bid openings, record minutes at bid opening. Receive and account for various fees. Help the public with tax related questions.
Privilege License: Take and process applications. Issue license. Prepare monthly renewal notices. Prepare end of month report for City Council.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Desirable Education and Experience: Must have valid MS Driver’s License. High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent desired. Requires ability to type a minimum of 40 wpm accurately. Must be computer literate and have excellent communication skills. Will have considerable contact with the public. Will be required to attend a Municipal Clerks Certification Program. One to two years of experience preferred.
