Lifeguard (Seasonal Part-Time)

Rate of pay: $7.50/hr
Nature of work: The fundamental purpose of this position is to provide supervision and instruction of various age groups in swimming and for the safety of patrons in the swimming area. Supervision is received from the assistant pool manager or pool manager.
Examples of work:

Teaches beginning and advanced classes in swimming

Determines eligibility for and conducts competitive swimming

Enforces pool rules and regulations for the safety and convenience of the public

Performs rescue and CPR/first aid

Checks the proper maintenance of the equipment and sanitation of pools and bathhouse facilities

Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
Desirable qualifications and abilities: Knowledge of principles and methods used in teaching of swimming; lifesaving methods used in teaching of swimming; lifesaving methods and procedures, including first aid and CPR; rules and regulations governing conduct of public at pools; swimming pool sanitary and chlorination systems; skill in the application of life saving techniques and swimming; ability to communicate orally in the English language in a one-on-one or group setting; react quickly and calmly in emergencies; lift arms above shoulder level; administer first aid and CPR; perform rescue actions; move objects in excess of 50 pounds long distances (greater than 20 feet)l firmly, but tactfully enforce rules and regulations; work cooperatively with other city staff and the public; work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others; work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends; some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work locations, assignment, or shift.
Acceptable experience and training: Minimum of 17 years old, possession of lifeguard certification from an accredited training program, and a valid driver’s license.
