Campus Crime StoppersState Honors Hattiesburg Campus Crime Stoppers Program

A collaborative effort amongst Metro Crime Stoppers, Hattiesburg High School and the Hattiesburg Police Department is the result of Hattiesburg adding yet another honor to the list. Held in Biloxi, Mississippi on Friday, January 21, 2011, the Mississippi State Crime Stoppers Division presented the Special-Implementation Award to representatives from each agency. This newly-created award was given after all three agencies came together to start the state’s first crime stoppers program on a high school campus. Those from Hattiesburg attending the awards ceremony, which was sponsored by the Mississippi State Crime Stoppers Advisory Council and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, were: Ms. Diane James of Metro Crime Stoppers, Officer Terrell Carson of the Hattiesburg Public School District, nine students who serve on the Campus Crime Stoppers Board, along with their advisor, Ms. Marlena Jenkins and LaKeisha Bryant of the Hattiesburg Police Department.

HPD Holds D.A.R.E. & G.R.E.A.T. GraduationsStudents Graduate from D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. Programs
Officers with the Community Relations Division of the Hattiesburg Police Department are eager to announce the accomplishment of over 400 students who took part in two youth initiative programs. On Friday, January 7, 2011, sixth-graders from: Woodley, Thames, Earl Travillon, Rowan, Lillie Burney, Grace Christian, and Hawkins Elementary School and Sacred Heart School graduated from the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program, which is designed to teach children how to resist drugs and violence. The keynote speaker was WDAM’s Mitchell Williams and special entertainment was conducted by the dynamic drumline of Hattiesburg High School. Concluding the ceremony was the Spirit Award Competition. After a two-way tie was declared, Grace Christian edged Sacred Heart to take home the trophy.
The Gang Resistance Education And Teaching (G.R.E.A.T.) graduation was held on Friday, January 21, 2011. This program is also taught to local students, but focuses more on gang resistance. Instructors for the programs are all from the Hattiesburg Police Department which includes: Sergeant E. Allen Murray, Officers Kevin Cline, Michael Sumner, Cedric Brown and Antonio Jackson. A job well done not only is given to these students, but also to the D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. Officers!

Members of the Hattiesburg Police Department along with their families, friends and other guests gathered on November 16, 2010, at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center to celebrate the department’s Annual Thanksgiving Dinner.This year’s dinner included: special guests, family members of the three wounded football players from the University of Southern Mississippi; hostesses, ladies of the Lamda Theta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated; and meal, a local caterer. The night concluded with a slideshow and door prizes. |
Reaccreditation Given to HPDHattiesburg Police Department Receives Reaccreditation

While walking down the halls of the Hattiesburg Police Department, you are likely to find smiles on literally everyone’s face. That’s because the department is now in its second year of receiving accreditation from the state.In March, HPD, who is already nationally accredited, was presented a certificate of reaccreditation by the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission.To gain recertification, every three years, there must be a review of all of the department’s procedures and policies, in addition to a review of evidence and patrol tactics.According to Chief Frazier Bolton, the department endeavors to keep its polices and procedures accurate."What we want to do is keep that edge that we have in the past, and we will continue to give and deliver the best service anybody can do in the police department," said Bolton. |
