For Immediate Release Hattiesburg, MS ∙March 11, 2011
After being on the run since the February 27, 2011 shooting at a local club, 27-year-old Laurel native Rickey Dean is now under arrest.
According to Hattiesburg Police Department authorities, Dean, the alleged shooter, turned himself in after he was willingly transported to the police department headquarters on Thursday afternoon. He is responsible for the early Sunday morning shooting at the Remington's Hunt Club which sent the victim to a local hosptial. At this time, the victim remains in the hospital.
Dean, a well-known associate of the gang “74 Hoover Crips”, has been charged with one count of Aggravated Assault and will have his initial first appearance in court today at 1:00 p.m.

In an effort to raise money for the American Cancer Society, firemen and policemen with the City of Hattiesburg Fire and Police Departments will walk the runway as they entertain spectators at the Womanless Beauty Pageant, which both agencies are sponsoring. The event will take place on St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center. Admission is $3 for children over age 5 and $5 for adults.

Police Arrest Man on Sexual BatteryCity of Hattiesburg Employee Arrested on Sexual Battery March 2, 2011 Hattiesburg police have arrested a City of Hattiesburg employee for sexually battering a 16-year-old girl. After receiving complaints from the minor’s guardian, police arrested and charged Joe A. Smith, 48. According to the guardian, the alleged incident occurred in early February at a local apartment complex. The victim reported that Smith inappropriately touched her. At this time, Smith remains in the Forrest County Regional Jail on $50,000 bond. |
Handy Pantry Armed Robbery Suspect SoughtPolice Seek Armed Robbery Suspect March 2, 2011 Hattiesburg police are on the search for an unidentified man who was involved in armed robbery of a local store. Around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the Handy Pantry convenience store, located at the intersection of 25th Avenue and Fourth Street, was robbed at gun-point. The suspect made off with an undetermined amount of money and was last seen wearing a black sweat suit. He is described as a black male about 5 feet, 6 inches and weighing about 150 pounds. Authorities in Hattiesburg are seeking the public’s help in apprehending the suspect responsible for the early Sunday morning shooting of a man. Around 2:00 a. m. on Sunday, February 27, 2011, police were dispatched to the Remington’s Hunt Club after shots rang out just as the club closed for business. The shooting, which took place in the parking lot of the club, sent one man to a local hospital. He remains in stable condition and his identity is being withheld at this time. The shooter, a well-known associate of the gang “74 Hoover Crips”, has been identified as Laurel native Rickey Dean, 26. Hattiesburg police wants the public to know that Dean should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Dean or have any other information that would ultimately lead to his arrest could receive a cash reward through Metro Crime Stoppers.
