Don’t Let Fire Ruin your Independence Day Celebration
Hattiesburg-Independence Day is a great time to gather with family and friends for outdoor activities such as grilling or fireworks. Because of dry weather conditions this holiday season, the Hattiesburg Fire Department urges residents to take extra precautions when operating open flame or high heat devices.
"One rule of thumb is to keep flammable materials away from grills and other high heat appliances," said HFD Chief David Webster. "Second, be sure to have access to an extinguisher or have a garden hose ready to douse any sparks that may fly into dry ground material. Third, allow charcoal ashes to cool down completely and then dispose of them properly."
City of Hattiesburg fireworks ordinance prohibits the use of fireworks within the City without a permit issued by the fire department. However, low heat devices such as sparklers are permitted. For more information, please contact 601.545.4508.
