Mississippi Long-Range Transportation Plans Available for Review
The draft Long–Range Transportation Plan for the Hattiesburg-Petal-Forrest-Lamar Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is now available for public review and comment.
The MPO develops its 25-year comprehensive plan in partnership with the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s 25-year statewide plan, which is known as MULTIPLAN 2035 (Mississippi Unified Long-Range Transportation Plan). MPO members facilitate local transportation planning in densely populated regions of the state and work with MDOT to ensure that connectivity and coordination is achieved. Mississippi’s MPOs are located in the Hattiesburg urbanized area, the Jackson urbanized area, and the Gulf Coast region.
The public is encouraged to attend the open forum public meetings listed below where both the draft MULTIPLAN 2035 and the draft area MPO plan for the Hattiesburg region will be available.
-
Forrest County - Wednesday, March 9, 2011, 4-6 p.m. Hattiesburg-Petal-Forrest-Lamar MPO Hattiesburg Intermodal Facility, 308 Newman Street, Hattiesburg
-
Lamar County - Thursday, March 10, 2011, 4-6 p.m. Hattiesburg/Petal/Forrest/Lamar MPO Breland Voting Precinct, 79 Jackson Road, Hattiesburg

MDOT and MPO staff members will be present at each meeting to discuss planning initiatives and receive comments from the public. All of the plans are also available for review at www.multiplan2035.com and www.hattiesburgms.com, where comments and questions may also be posted. Individuals without direct access to the internet are invited to visit Mississippi’s public libraries where access is offered free of charge.
Citizens have until March 23, 2011 to make comments or provide suggestions concerning this statewide planning process.
Anyone, including non-English speaking individuals, requiring auxiliary aids or special accommodations to attend a particular meeting, may contact MDOT at 601.359.7685 no later than five days prior to the meeting date for assistance.
