For Immediate Release:

2012 Olympic Track & Field Gold Medalist Bianca Knight
to Help Spearhead 2012 Healthy Hometown Celebration on Oct. 20

Hattiesburg-The City of Hattiesburg will celebrate its annual Healthy Hometown event on Sat., Oct. 20 at Town Square Park at 11 a.m., immediately after the University of Southern Mississippi’s homecoming parade. Town Square Park is located on the corner of Buschman and North Main Streets.
2012 Olympic Track and Field Gold Medalist Bianca Knight will be one of many featured guests of the health fest which is promising to provide a slew of memorable moments including a touching tribute to the late City of Hattiesburg Director of Federal and State Programs, Franklyn Tate, who was known for his relentless dedication to staying fit.

During the event, participants will have an opportunity to win treadmills, stationary bikes, bicycles, gym memberships, Southern Miss homecoming tickets, and much more. The crowd will also be dazzled by national acclaimed gymnasts from Jump In’ Gymnastics who will showcase their talent on the balance beam, the volt, and floor exercises. Tiger-Rock Martial Arts Academy plans to show why it’s considered a premiere martial-arts franchise.

The crowd will get a chance to take part in their share of challenges during other exhibitions which will include dance, aerobics, Zumba and a new form of exercise called Kukuwa. The smallest of the attendees will not be left out as they too will have opportunities to work their muscles as they participate in events such as the trike-a-thon and jump-a-thon.

Included in the mix will be three area chefs competing for gold in a cook-off inspired by the reality television show, “Chopped.”  The judges will include WDAM Meteorologist Rex Thompson.
